Colic...How I got through... My cures for colic...

Colic is when a baby cries inconsolably for more than 3 hours in the day and doesn't sleep well at night. This is caused either by a baby's nervous system not being fully developed, a under developed digestive system, or both. My babe had a couple nights where he was up every hour very uncomfortable. His was mainly the digestive problem. He was extremely gassy and bloated most of the time. I felt so bad for the little guy. After much study, I found a probiotic drop that I give to my little buy everyday and it has made all the difference. One study I read said that a baby's digestive system is not fully developed the first three month of life and they don't have the natural good gut bacteria until they are 3 months old. That is why colic usually last until three months. Another study I read was of one hundred breast fed, colicky babies. 50 were giving regular over the counter gas drops containing Simethicone 20 mg (which is what is in Mylicon drops) and 50 were given a lactobacillus reuteri Protectis probiotic drop (which the Bio Gaia Probiotic drops contain). Only 7% of the babies given the Simethicone showed improvement while 47 out of the 50 babies that were given the probiotic drops showed improvement. It was a no brainer for me which one to try, especially since I had tried the Mylicon drops and they didn't seem to help at all. All breast fed babies can be very sensitive to what a mother eats but with colic, it almost doesn't matter how good you eat or what you eat. They are always in pain. After giving him the Bio Gaia Probiotic drops for about a week, he stopped waking up every couple hours at night and started sleeping for 6-7 hours straight. He is much more comfortable during the day and has an easier time with elimination of gas and BM's. I also am taking two different herbs, one that aids digestion and one that is a probiotic. I tried 4 types of Gripe Water. The only two that I ever saw helped even a little bit were, Baby Bliss Gripe Water and Colic Calm. These are both all natural with no Alcohol. Before I found out about the probiotics, I was giving him about six doses a day. Now I give one dose of Baby Bliss in the morning and one dose of Colic Calm at night. I also make sure he does plenty of tummy time during the day and his little tummy exercises I learned from my Grandpa who is a reflexologist. I give him a deep bath (well, deep for him) every night because the water pressure helps calm him and his tummy. Then I rub some essential oils on his tummy and back after his bath, doTERRA Roman Chamomile, doTERRA Lavender and doTERRA Marjoram. I also make sure to give his feet a good little massage. I honestly don't think I have to do all this any more with the probiotics but why not. He loves the little routine we are forming and I think it's good bonding time for us. I think I will always use these probiotic drops for my babies from now on even if they don't have colic, because I want their transition into this life to be as comfortable as possible. So, that's that.

Thanks for the tips to stop baby colic. My baby was a bit colicky because of reflux. Thank goodness the sling worked for me.
